A Daily Devotion for Friday, July 16

Acts 14: 14-18

Verse 15: “Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them.”

Paul and Barnabas resisted any temptation to take credit for God’s power. Yesterday I heard part of an interview of a baseball player who had just won an award. It seemed to be a pretty big deal to the person interviewing him. The baseball player had a huge smile on his face. The first words out of his mouth were to give thanks to God, who was with him, helping him, and made this possible. He was so humble! Everything we are able to do or to achieve, every kindness, good deed, act of friendship or show of support, we are able to do because of God, and to His glory. If I am able to achieve good or even great things, the glory belongs to God. I should be less timid about saying so.

Holy One, you are in control, giving us the power to do great things. Amen
