I Thessalonians 5:12-24
Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
There is a lot of teaching in this passage! This morning God reminds me (once again) to be thankful and prayerful no matter what is happening in my life. We had a beautiful day yesterday, but there is also a fair amount going on behind the scenes. Each of us has our burdens- some we can share, some remain hidden in our hearts. Today I pray that each of my loved ones find you, Jesus. May we all be thankful each and every day for your many blessings, as well as being thankful for your presence in our difficulties. Amen

God’s Glimmers
(Focus: to be grateful in all circumstances
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
We need to keep the lines of communication open with God. We can stay in constant fellowship with him through prayers all day long. For me this describes my breath prayers. It’ not always as easy when things go wrong. While there are times when I need to be very diligent, focused and set apart to pray, I do not have to wait until I am in church or some other designated place or wait until I have a certain amount of time…
1 Thessalonians 5:12-24
I like the term “glimmers” that the Upper Room writer uses to describe moments of joy, peace and gratitude. Paul is giving instruction to help us create those glimmers, respect, caring, forgiveness, prayer and the privilege and joy of living a Christ-like life. Joy is all around and I must give up my troubles to God, trust Him and focus on this joy He provides for me.
Heavenly Father, thank You for all the joy in my life. Please help me to embrace this joy that can be found in every step I take and help me to trust You completely and always.
With gratitude I pray. Amen
1 Thessalonians 5:12:24 God's Glimmers
"Rejoice, rejoice Emmanuel has come to thee oh Isreal" We sing these lines each year during advent and Christmas and yet they never get old. They always bring joy. Paul reminds us with these verses to be joyful, to pray, and to always be thankful.
Prayer: Gracious God, may I always be joyfl about my faith and my prayers and to always be thankful for all you've given me. AMEM
I Thessalonians 5:12-24
“Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.” As the new year rapidly approaches, this verse from today’s reading reminds me to examine all that is presented to me with discernment and wisdom. Some plans and opportunities will be of God, but others, no matter how good they may seem, will definitely not. I need to keep Paul’s words in mind and strive to stay on the path of sanctification.
Prayer - Merciful God, thank You for the year past and thank You for the opportunity to set the stage for an excellent year ahead by staying in Your Word, studying and worshipping with…
