Exodus 14:13-14
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
I have come to this realization: I am very rarely still. I can seek out God in prayer, and think about God’s word, but I am not good at quietly waiting and listening for Him. I wonder what God has to say about this pandemic. Is it just a tiny blip in the screen, or is it at the center or at the edge of something important for us as God’s creation? I am going to try to do more listening.
Lord, I humbly pray to you this morning: speak to me, lead me, help me to know the way you would have us go. If there are answers or directions, I want to be still enough to hear them. Amen

Sometimes it is so hard to stand firm and wait. We like things resolved quickly so we can "move on"to the next thing on our list. I admit patience is not one of my virtues as I have always been a "doer." We all need to slow down, breathe deeply and sit quietly in order to her God's voice. Several years ago at the church I was attending the minister held a Bible study that included meditation. I found it was amazing that I could actually sit quietly for however minutes she was giving us at the time. Learning to clear one's mind is not easy to do. We need to make time to do this so we can listen…
Exodus 14:13-14. But Moses told the people: don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm. I can just imagine the scene. The Israelites had been escaping Egypt. They came to the sea and have no way to cross and they look behind them to see pharaoh and his army bearing down on them. What does Moses do? He tells them to not be afraid, stand still, and be calm. Really! The Israelites believed in the Lord but, unlike Moses, they did not “know” their Lord. Of course, it all turned out OK. In difficult situations, d…
Exodus 14:13-14
(For me, this is another scripture where I have to read the before and after to get a clearer understanding of the selected verses.)
God’s people have been delivered out of slavery in Egypt. They’re now standing right on the edge of the Red Sea with this massive body of water in front of them, with the Egyptians, who have enslaved them for years. Pharaoh and his army have now come after them to bring them back. The people are worried, concerned, afraid. What do they do, where do they go when they are trapped with a sea in front of them and all this army behind them. And Moses saids do not be afraid, stand firm …
Exodus 14: 13-14
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
I sometimes find myself like the Israelites. I lose patience waiting for an answer or an outcome to happen and when it does not seem to come. I forget that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit never leave me. In time the waiting will end and the outcome will be what it is. It is my faith in God that has to pull me through, even if the answer is not what …
Exodus 14:13 - “Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.”
I was drawn to the word “today” in this verse. With God, our protection and deliverance are day to day. “Give us this day our daily bread.” This seems to me to be a major reason we should be in prayer daily. In maintaining our connection with God in prayer we take spiritual food to nourish us for the day ahead. Whatever the challenge, every tomorrow becomes a today and a chance for us to renew our strength through the work of the Holy Spirit when we engage in prayer.
Prayer - Gracious God, I…
