A Daily Devotion for Friday, August 27

Luke 6: 31

”Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

In a way, this probably has been a “life verse” for me, without my realizing it. My mom often reminded us of the “golden rule”. At some point this became automatic for me. True, it is easy for me to get carried off track and forget. But this is such an excellent tool to use in life. It has become a habit for me to imagine myself on the receiving end of something I am saying or doing. It gives a very different view of how my actions impact others. It is not perfect, because we all see the world in our own unique way. We can never 100% know or understand another’s perspective. But it is a very good start. These words are words I try to live by.

Heavenly Father, help me to always treat others with the same respect and dignity I would like for myself. Remind me when I do not, with a nudge from your Holy Spirit. Amen

Luke 6:31

Do to others as you would have them so to you Treating people the way that I would like to be treated is definitely the “golden rule” to living an honest and joyful life. People will give you what you give to them, so do not expect anything different. So if I am a person that does not like how I have been treated lately, I need to step back and rethink the way I am treating others. There may be a connection between the two. The other example of this golden rule would be to treat others the way they themself wish to be treated. There simply isn’t a lot more I can add to add to th…

Luke 6:31. Do to others as you would like them to do to you. As with many instructions from Jesus, this verse is really about love. From the beatitudes in verses 20 to 23 to his instructions to love our enemies in verses 29 to 36, he shows us the importance of love. Jesus’ love is freely given to everyone and he wants us to be more like him. This is certainly not an easy thing to do. But if we take this verse alone, we have all the direction we need. Prayer: Gracious God, May I always treat others with love as Jesus would have me doing. Amen

Luke 6: 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

I feel if we all treated everyone like we want to be treated, the world would be a better place. When I look back over my life I see times that I did not follow this rule. I never asked myself how I would feel if someone said or did something to me that was unfair. I have learned through the Bible readings and the gift of the Holy Spirit to not do this any longer.

Dearest Lord, thank you for your understanding as I walk through this life and learn the hard way, what is right. Help me to continue to stay on the straigh…

Luke 6:31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

This is a verse that I probably learned in Sunday school. It was taught so often that it was easily memorized. I now realize that memorizing a wise/good thing becomes part of your thinking and will influence your actions. I don’t remember ever saying to myself that I will act on this saying but it has influenced the way that I act. It has helped to build integrity into my life.

Dear Lord thank you for influencing my life through your word. Please guide me to more understanding and better actions. Amen.
