Daily Prayer

March 22, 2022

A daily prayer from the New England Conference

Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

On the threshold Somewhere between manna from heaven and fruit from the earth, we find God. Somewhere between everything old and all things new, we find God. Somewhere between being lost and found, we find God. Somewhere between pandemic and endemic, we find God. Somewhere between war and peace, we find God. Somewhere between a breaking apart and a new identity, we find God. We can sometimes recognize these threshold moments only after the fact, like a plague passing over the lintel in the night. We transition from one thing to the next with only a hint of the Beloved carrying us over the front stoop into a new home. We straddle the then and not yet—a foot in both worlds, grieving and rejoicing over the letting go of the familiar, fearing and thrilling at what will rise beneath us to ground our next step. At some point we know deep in our bones that we have arrived — that we are where we need to be — that we are where God needs us to be. Only then do we begin to realize — God was always with us. God is always with us. God will always be with us. And we are always on the threshold. Thank you, God of the threshold, for abiding with us. Amen and Amen.

By Rev. Jill Colley Robinson, Green Mountain District Superintendent Inspired by Joshua 5.9-12; II Corinthians 5.16-21; Luke 15.1-3, 11b-32
