Daily Prayer

A daily prayer from the New England Conference

The clergy and laity of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

'You only ask(ed) me to follow humbly', Lord. Lord, hold my hand and I will do my best. You have had to pull me some days and on others you've had to push. Your hand has gently led AND insistently prodded. Sometimes I have let go and foundered upon the lake shore and feared I would drown. I have resisted your reaching in a thousand ways, I have resisted your teaching so many days. But you have always been in the shadow that I have cast, waiting for me to turn again at last. With Isaiah, I have been overwhelmed at your high-above-me-ness and with the psalmist I have bowed down in praise toward your temple. With Paul, I have proclaimed you in my imperfection. I have wondered, I have waited, I have promised and I have turned back. But you, O Lord, keep me coming to the lake shore to meet you. 'O Lord, with your eyes you have searched ME, and while smiling have spoken MY name..." 'You only ask(ed) me to follow humbly.' Lord, hold my hand and I will do my best.
