Today's Prayer

As The Spirit Chooses

Ready or not God, here I come. I know (‘cause your mother told me) that you are capable of anything. So I would like to order up the following from your gift menu. wisdom, with a side of knowledge, faith healing is always good and who could pass up miracles, but skip the prophecy course please, I don’t really want to know. Discernment sounds delicious. And I’ve always wanted to try tongues. Can I get it all to go? Wait, what? No go, only here? Whoa ... is this the Chef’s table? I’m honored but isn’t that a cook’s choice kind of situation? What if I don’t like what I’m given? Is there a gift exchange? A return policy? Credit back? And, if I’m not mistaken (I so rarely am) This is not a table for one. Look at all the chairs. And what do you mean, “some not all per …” customer, I say, but sure, we can use “brother/sister,” if you insist. Is your supply chain broken too? Sorry if that’s a sensitive subject. I know you always say there’s enough, But it doesn’t seem to get to where it’s needed most, So many distasteful places to turn my eyes from. Remember? I do, now that you mention it, remember all these gifts are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses. I remember, as these tablemates draw me into their songs, How precious is your steadfast love, O God! All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. O continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your salvation to the upright of heart! What I will take from this table, when I go, where I go, is the vastness of your intention and a specificity to my direction: gift fed, as you choose, love lavished, as you provide enough to share, as I learn. Thank you, Great Reminder. AMEN
