A daily prayer from the New England Conference

Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

God of peace, we seek to prepare our lives and hearts in this season of Advent. We long to raise the joy within our days. Too often we allow worry to rule the day and the night. The scripture tells us not to worry, but to pray. Strip bare our worries to the point where we see that they cannot harm us. Light our eyes with the joy of your presence that our minds might be filled with thanksgiving. May we find a gentleness for ourselves and for the world in the knowledge of your presence with us. Hear our prayers not just those that roll off our tongues, but the ones we can’t repeat in church. The ones that scare us too much to name. Guard our hearts and minds as we dare to share those prayers with you. Move us from worry and fear to a place of peace and acceptance. Bring us to Bethlehem with a sense of wonder and joy for all that you are birthing in our lives through the gift of your love and grace. We pray in the anticipation of all that you hope we will discover in Jesus Christ our Lord in whose name we pray. Amen.
