John 19:28
Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”
Jesus was fully divine, but at the same time fully human. God could have walked this earth in any form he chose. But coming to walk among us as a man, as Jesus, allowed us to trust in God in a very real way. As Lucado points out, Jesus had feelings, and he showed them. He knew joy, but also great sorrow, anger and physical pain. When we go to God with our suffering, we know he understands. Our God does not sit above us, unfeeling. He walked among us.
Holy Lord, it is such a comfort to know Jesus. I am truly thankful. Help me to live up to your grace. Amen

John 19:28
Lucado points out the human feelings that Jesus has displayed including his physical thirst, helping us to know that Jesus knows what we go through and how it makes us more likely to turn to him because he knows. He fulfills the prophesy and takes the next of his final steps to provide us with salvation.
Dear God, help me to know that I can always turn to Jesus because He always understands my journey and always knows my feelings…joy and sorrow. Thank you for the salvation He provides for me. Amen

When I think of this word, thirst the first thing that pops into my head is a feeling of emptiness—or extreme dehydration that needs to be quenched. In his final moments on the Cross, we see Jesus submitting himself to very human feelings of emptiness in both body and spirit. He feels bodily thirst as he reached his limits near death. His body is bare for all to look upon, spit upon, and mock. what is Jesus’ thirst as he hangs there on the Cross. Jesus knows that all…
John 19:28
The theme Lucado emphasized in this verse was Jesus displaying yet another aspect of His humanity juxtaposed on His divinity. What struck me this morning is a homework assignment I have given myself. The verse includes the phrase, “so that Scripture would be fulfilled.” John uses that phrase numerous times in his gospel to bolster his argument that Jesus is the prophesied Messiah. Finding and reading these prophesies is a faith-building exercise for me, so that is my assignment for today.
Prayer - Lord Jesus, so many of the details of Your life and death represent fulfillment of prophesy. Why has it been so hard or people so unwilling to “connect the dots” to reveal Your identity. My…
