A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis for October 17, 2020

October 17, 2020 A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis

During these difficult days, members of the Many Waters District of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today’s prayer 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

Loving God, grace and peace, deep grace and just peace, are what we seek from you.  Today we thank you for all who share in ministry in our local churches, extension ministries, community efforts, district, and annual conference.  We name them before you now. Please take a moment to thank God for the ways you encounter God in each other and in community. As the New England Annual Conference convenes today we will see works of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. We know that you, God, have chosen these clergy and lay members of the annual conference for this time and for this work. Guide and empower us by your word and Spirit as you test us for evidence of our faith. May our attempts to grow more like Jesus the Christ, in both good and in difficult circumstance, inspire each other. Save us from destructive wrath and challenge us with prophetic witness. May the work done today honor you and bear witness to your transforming grace in a way that extends far beyond our virtual walls. Recollect us from all idols that tempt us that we may serve you, the living and true God, as we wait and work for Christ’s kindom. And all God’s people said, “amen.” Rev. Dr. Karen Munson, District Superintendent of the Many Waters District
