A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis for December 31, 2020

A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis

During these difficult days, Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar and the members of the Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today’s prayer

Eternal God, as we come to a new year and ponder our days, we bless your Holy name; for you alone have fashioned the mysteries of Kronos and Kairos. Help us to slow down and take account of the important moments which have shaped our days, and as we do so, may we gain a heart of wisdom. Give us courage and a sense of peace and calmness even in the midst of a global pandemic. As we look outward, we are increasingly amazed and concerned by the events of the world. Help us to realize that we are a part of an important wholeness in life, and we cannot live indifferently from those who suffer. We offer a prayer today for the world leaders. Give them the vision to shape a new world where self-interest is tempered and corrected by the power of your eternal love. We thank you for the many blessings which have come to us in every imaginable way. Help us accept the things of our past and not be ashamed. Give us power even in our weakness to overcome. Enable us to embrace the present with insight, enthusiasm, and purpose. Empower us to look to the future with confidence and hope, for it is in the Spirit of Christ we offer this prayer. A Covenant Prayer in the Wesleyan Tradition (UMH #607)

I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt. Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee, Exalted for thee or brought low for thee. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal. And now, O Glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, Let it be ratified in heaven. Amen. Rev. Dr. David V. Calhoun, Seacoast District Superintendent
