A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis

During these difficult days, members of the Many Waters District of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today’s prayer

Based on 1 Kings 19 God?

As I pray this to you, I do so with a heavy heart. And it’s not just me, everyone I know, my brothers and sisters all feel it too, and it doesn’t seem good.

We wait in anxiousness to see the world return to the patterns and ways that are of comfort to us. Challenges abound and there is talk of changes in all measures of our life, from this point forward. This feels foreign and unsettling, we struggle with the many ways in which our very daily existence is confronted with changes that aren’t what we would chose. I’m paralyzed, I want to crumple up in a ball and hide.

Dear Father, Abba,

Others have walked this path before, many, many of your disciples from ancient times till now. I don’t walk this path alone, you are there and the great multitude of believers before me. Let me put my faith, my true and honest faith in you – your plan. Help me remember in my times of anxiousness all you have done for me, for all your followers.

I will Lord, stand in your light, be made whole and good, ready to serve by the example that has been made known to your believers over and over; that you will use us for your awesome and great purpose of reaching others. In this I can draw comfort, strength, determination and resolve to face all the challenges that life has ahead, steadfast in the faith of our journey together.

In Jesus’ name. Amen and Amen.
