A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis

During these difficult days, members of the Commonwealth East District of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today’s prayer

Psalm 126: 1-5 Holy One we wait… for our fortunes to be restored for rich and blessed gatherings of feast and family for laughter to ring our around the hearth, in our hearts and on holy ground. But in our waiting we have become passive dreamers longing for what was rather than active co-creators. Remind us that… waiting is not passive but a bold seeking of your purpose, will and Kin-dom waiting is not regaining what we have lost but discovering what is missing waiting is what we do to prepare for renewal, new birth and new beginnings. Holy One restore our passion for transformation hear out shouts for joy and open our hearts to your Holy presence give us generous hearts to love you and others, allow our time of waiting to be a time of deep change. For it is only in seeing the Christ in others and loving the Christ you saw in others that we will know our waiting is drawing to a close. May those who sow tears reap shouts of joy. May we come closer to who you have called us to be Then, restored, all will be able to rejoice shouting The LORD has done great things for us. Rev. Gary L. Shaw, Carter Memorial UMC, Carter Spiritual Life Center (Needham, MA)
