A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis
During these difficult days, members of the clergy class of 2021 are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today’s prayer
After meditating on John 17:6-19 Gracious God, We thank you for the growing excitement and joy among many of us as we begin to return to our beloved spaces of worship. It feels not too far from the long-awaited everyday life in peace and perhaps a bit of boredom. In this season of resurrection and hope, we thank you for the Holy Spirit, who will continue to guide us in our works for renewal and perfection in love. Yet we hear today very different stories from places like India, Brazil, Myanmar, and elsewhere where the desperate cries for life reach the sky. Then we are reminded of more than half a million's lives in this land perished in the years of the pandemic and more people under the threat of violence and racism. Gracious One, have mercy on us. Lord God, I wonder what would have happened if, in his last supper, Jesus prayed to take his disciples out of this world with him. Instead, he prayed for them to remain in love with you through him while they were on earth. And for the world, your Child offered the most powerful prayer by giving his life for it. He knew that you so loved the world because he is one with you. So we pray for the world in the love through which your Son conquered it and brought it back to you. Remind us that we live by that love as well so that, in humility, we may join together your works of saving lives. As Pentecost is near, we pray the Spirit of restoration and reconciliation blows into us so that we may be the workers of peace and justice for what is broken in and outside us. May our Easter joy multiply and spread when we testify who you are in our service and mission. In Christ our hope, we pray. Amen.
