A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, September 6

Luke 9:24

"For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it."

These words hold meaning on different levels. Jesus is speaking to his disciples, and his message to them is more immediate and concrete. But to those of us who follow Jesus, many centuries later, the message is more subtle, but still vitally important. To follow Jesus, there are sacrifices I need to be willing to make. To serve others in Jesus' name, to worship with my church family, to meet with fellow believers, to study scripture--all require a small sacrifice of my place in this world. The more of the world I can give up for Jesus, the better.

Holy Lord, help me to see sacrifices I can make for you. I am here because you created me. Lead me, Lord. Amen

Luke 9:24

Jesus wants us to spend our lives serving God and those around us. If we don’t do that, we are sacrificing our lives to the pleasures of the world, wealth and power, and eliminating the possibility of another life at Jesus feet.

Prayer: Gracious God, I pray that my actions set in motion others to do the same in your name. Amen

Whether we are giving up good things or going through bad times we are not alone while doing this. Jesus said, if you are going to follow me, you have to deny yourself,, meaning you have to put Jesus first in every thing. second step in following Jesus is…discipleship. If we pursue our own choices we will lose in the end. But, if we let go of our selfish aims and entrust ourselves to the Lord Jesus, living for His purposes, seeking His will, we will gain eternal life when we die and multiplie…
