A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, September 16

Acts 3:19-21 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Christ, who has been appointed for you- even Jesus. He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.

Jesus may seem different to different people. The Jews of Jesus’ time had to look beyond many long held beliefs and expectations to see Christ’s true identity. And as time passed, each new believer heard about and experienced Jesus in a new way, unique to him or her. But he was the same, the true God and Creator.

Hwy 2 runs through the small town in northern NH where Tom and I and our kids spend a lot of our vacation time. The same highway runs through the town in northern Michigan where my parents had a home for over 40 years. My older brother now lives yards from this highway with my sister in Christ, Donna. And my brother’s son lives off the same Hwy 2 in the state of Washington!

Christ connects all of us- however we meet Him. He has the same message for each of us, but we will experience Him and his desires for us in different ways. We have to pay attention and we have to leave our hearts wide open to Him.

Jesus, speak to me in ways I can recognize. I pray to you, please dwell in my heart forever, and help me to hear you always. I need you so. Amen

20200916 Wed, Daily Devotion - Acts 3:19-21

19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, 20 and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you-even Jesus. 21 Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through His holy prophets.

All of my focus is on Renewal, Restoration, and Refreshing because we must be renewed by the Word of God and the Spirit of God every day so that we may know what God’s good, pleasing, and perfect will for our daily situations. Today’s scriptures tell us what I can do…

Acts 3:19-20 - “Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Messiah appointed for you, that is, Jesus,“

How is it that nearly 2000 years after having this offer made, so many prefer to live with the sin to which they have become so accustomed? John’s Gospel says the world chooses darkness over light. This is such a mystery, but all the more reason for those who trust in God to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Repentance is liberation from the burdens of sin and death, and is available simply for the asking.…
