John 4:5-14
verse 10: Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
The woman at the well does not understand at first what Jesus is saying. The well is too deep for this stranger to get water. How can he give her water? And what is “living water?” I love these verses, because the woman is just like any of us or anyone we know. She knows what she has been shown or experienced. Along comes Jesus, the very Messiah, introducing himself to her with an invitation to eternity. Unbelievable. Yet, she believes. May I also be so open to all I have been shown and taught by God’s Word.
Lord, I ask you to take my doubt away. It holds me back. I am yours. Amen

Tom spoke of our conversation last evening about sharing the gospel. Yesterday i was sitting at a red light and a man was standing beside my truck holding his cardboard sign. I gave him some money and said God bless you, and he said it back to me. That did a lot more for me than my little gift did for him.
John 4: 5-14
11 “Sir, the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?”
Jesus is talking to a woman who would normally be shunned by the people in her village. Yet he speaks to her about living water. She doesn’t understand that Jesus is talking about the love, joy and happiness that comes to our hearts when we know that God loves us. Even though we are sinners, Jesus gives us this life giving water that makes us feel loved. Jesus showed the Samaritan kindness and respect. This is a lesson for us to always show kindness and respect to all we meet, and in this way…
John 4:9 - “The Samaritan woman said to him, ‘How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?’”
Last night the Transformers talked about how to share the gospel without necessarily quoting Scripture or presenting doctrine. Modern skeptics have promulgates the BIg Lie that Christianity is exclusive, intolerant and toxically paternalistic often enough that many in our culture believe it. This simple scene (and many others) explode that gross falsehood from the pit. We do too when we willingly share with those with whom we may have major differences. For Christians, love of God should be reflected as love for others.

Good to see you, Rosalind. You and Roland were missed last night.
20201028 Wednesday, Daily Devotion - John 4:5-14
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
It would be one of the greatest news if we could have such water for everyone because we will not be thirsty any more. But, this is not a dream but a reality happening in our daily life. The problem is that we don’t drink it. The water was given to us about 2,000 years ago. If we don’t know the taste of the water, we need to try it…
