A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, November 4

Exodus 2:23-25
During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.
Because we have the rest of the story, we know that God heard the Israelites and led them out of Egypt. There would have been some, however, who lived for years in Egypt, and perhaps died in oppression. I think of those who do not receive “rescue” in their lifetime and yet they believe. Although it is good to know something about the bigger picture, all I can really know is my own experience. What I can believe in and hope for is what I know from Scripture. (Is this where the Wesleyan quadrilateral comes in?) We get a taste of God’s love for us when we experience joy in His presence, and the love of others. I will hold on to the hope of an eternity with God, just as He has promised me.
Holy Lord, thank you for all you have done for us, your creation, all you continue to do, and all that you have promised. I live in your love for me, and I am thankful. Amen
