John 11:1-44

verse 35: Jesus wept.

The story of the death and raising of Lazarus has never been so rich to me as it is today. We talked last night about Jesus’ heart for the widow whose son had died. “Don’t cry,” he said to her. In the story of Lazarus Jesus is himself moved to tears. Today I realize he is crying for the pain Lazarus’ death is causing to all those who love him. He may be crying knowing the pain was prolonged while he stayed away. We see Jesus’ human-ness. He then raises Lazarus from the dead with a crowd of witnesses. If this were the only story of healing in scripture, it should be enough to convince us.

Lord God, you came to earth as a man called Jesus. I am forever grateful and willing to follow you. Thank you for teaching me. May my life reflect your love for your creation and your compassionate heart. Amen

John 11: 1-44

Again we read about the very human experience of people faced with death. As their brother Lazarus lay very sick and dying Mary and her sister Martha turned to Jesus for help. They believed in his ability to help because they had seen his miracles. Jesus loved this family, and understood their pain but did not respond until two days later. Jesus himself is overcome with grief at the death of a close friend. In great distress, his grief came straight from his heart, Jesus wept and continued to grief. These actions indicate the intensity of his grief. His delay was not considered a denial, but the sole purpose of showing Jesus’s power over death to h…

John 11: 1-44

21 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died."

I think I may feel this way sometimes when I am going through those bumps in the road of life. Where are you Lord, why do I have to feel this way? How selfish I am. Jesus is always there watching over me. He may send these bumps in order to mold me into the person I am meant to be. As I look back on all the bumps in my life, I realize that from each bump I learned something and became stronger. Believing in Jesus as my Lord and Savior teaches me all of this. He is there…

John 11:1-44

There is a lot in this story that I hadn’t thought of before. 6 , , , He stayed where He was 2 more days, Jesus was so sure He could bring Lazarus back that He didn’t hurry. 35 Jesus wept. Another example of His compassion and love. 41 . . . Father, I thank you that you have heard me. Jesus then admits that he said this for the benefit of those around him in order to make them understand the power and love of God. All things that we discussed last evening.

Dear Lord, because of your compassion and love for us, we try to show that to others. Help us to appreciate how following your…
