A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, June 8

James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

This is something I often forget. I can struggle and struggle to find a solution, forgetting that asking God first is always the best course. Turning to God with my questions is not always the first thing I think of. In fact, I could (and should) do it more often right in my office when faced with a difficult clinical situation.

Holy One- Thank-you for these words today reminding me to turn to you for wisdom; prayer leads to discernment, which leads to true wisdom. Amen

James 1:

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

When we make decisions the one thing so important is that it will be God’s will for our lives. This is a battle. If most of us were truly honest we can confess that we want our own way. The bible should be the informing tool by which our decisions are made. Every day decisions like household chores do not necessarily need a conversation with God. Sometimes these types of decisions can get muddled up with emotions and options and plain indecisiveness. Have a conversation with God. He already knows w…

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

We touched on this last night when we talked about having God’s spirit in us. We have to have the wisdom, or discernment, to follow what we know instinctively to be right. When we make the decision to do the wrong thing we know it and deliberately go against what the Spirit is telling us.

Dear Lord, I know the difference between right and wrong but sometimes the wrong thing is so tempting. Give me the strength to choose as you have taught me. Amen.

I know I have made many wrong choices in my life, but it is wonderful to know that I can go to God and ask him for his insight and understanding, and He promises to give me all I need to not make the same mistakes again. I know now how much I need God’s wisdom in this life of disappointments and challenges. I am grateful that I have the courage to admit my faults and continue to learn from the lessons that God is teaching me every day.

Dearest Lord, sometimes the…

James 1:5 If you need wisdom ask our generous God, he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. When we pray, asking God for protection, we are trusting him. The same should be true when asking for help in a difficult situation. What should I do Lord? I am sure he wants us to seek his help for all our needs. I am not sure I do this enough, especially in the midst of a difficult moment. Sometimes we are too quick to solve our own problems instead of seeking God‘s help. Prayer: gracious God, help me to slow down and always seek your guidance over my own. Amen

James 1:5

James highlights one of the differences between wisdom and knowledge. Knowledge may not be available to all, depending on their circumstances. But God gives wisdom (generously we are told) to all who turn to Him. Like all of God’s gifts - ask and it will be given, seek and and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you.

Prayer - God of wisdom, guide my

thoughts and actions to reflect wisdom divinely imparted to me by Your Spirit. Let Your throne of grace and no earthly source be the origin of any and all wisdom with which I am graced. Amen
