1 Peter 4:9
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
To me this verse is a teaching verse that sounds really simple, almost humorous. But maybe there is another lesson here. Doing something because it is the right thing to do is obviously the right thing. But what if I am grumbling inside? If we behave according to God's desires for us, we change a little bit. We transform. What may have caused us to grumble initially may now bring us a bit of joy. And the good that results from our hospitality may outshine any small grumbling we had felt.
Lord God, this is an excellent lesson for me. I will look for opportunities to grow in this way. Help me to see them, please. Amen

1 Peter 4:9
Show hospitality to one another without grumbling
In this verse, Peter urges Christians to demonstrate love by offering hospitality without grumbling. At that time christian hospitality had a much greater need and was a much greater burden, as well. Today I think most Christians tend to think of hospitality as having people over for dinner, or hosting a large gathering . How many times have I thought what is wrong with this particular person. Focusing on people’s faults is not showing love, which is one of God’s most important message’s. I choose to say a (breath)prayer for them concerning what I may have observed, and to pray for myself for having the tho…
1 Peter 4:9 I admit to specific, personal
examples of agreeing to provide hospitality while grumbling inside. The inevitable lesson is that it was a blessing to host and the gathering was a joy for all. Taking that first step in saying yes is what opens the door to that joy. Perhaps the “hospital” in hospitality is a reminder that sharing with others offers healing to our relationships and to our souls.
Prayer - God of fellowship, make me a cheerful and willing purveyor of Your hospitality to all who need to experience your love. Amen

1 Peter 4:9
from the learning Bible: Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay for the night.
the Message: Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless – —cheerfully!
Peter wants us to live in readiness for Jesus’ return—not with worrying if we are ready. We are ready if we act on this verse. Some translations use the words “without grumbling.” I was happy to see the word cheerfully in these two translations. It is often our own mindset that determines if we offer hospitality cheerfully or hesitantly – – without grumbling. I believe God prefers the cheerful giver of hospitality.
Prayer: gracious God, even when…
