Proverbs 4:11
I instruct you in the way of wisdom
and lead you along straight paths.
Sometimes the friends we choose do not lead us along the best path. We cannot blame them for our poor choices, but when we look back, it is clear where we went wrong. I had a close work friend many years ago and we walked outside during our lunch hour every day. At some point I noticed we were spending more and more time gossiping and laughing about coworkers. I won’t lie- she was very funny and entertaining and I enjoyed this part of the day. But eventually I realized what had developed and what we were doing. It was not “letting off steam” or “venting”; it was gossip, and laughing at others’ expense, pure and simple. I remember when I started to feel bad about it and said something. I have been much more careful over the years to keep this out of my relationships. It was not God leading me along that path.
Holy Lord, help me to be aware when I am allowing Satan to lead me off in the wrong direction. Sometimes it is not obvious to me. You will never lead me wrong. Amen

Proverbs 4:11
Well, no question about it, Satan is working overtime to keep us off track. Decadence is all around us, tempting us everyday. We desperately need God’s guidance and His plan laid out before us. It reminds me of when I was young and involved in sports. I preferred team sports. With a good coach and a team who was well aligned with the coach’s plan and strategies, good things happened, victories were there. With God as our coach and his perfect plan in place, we are afforded the victory of salvation.
Heavenly Father, thank you for your guidance and for the beautiful example Jesus provides for us. You are the only real coach I will ever need. Thank…
Proverbs 4:11-19.
Provers 4-11. I instruct you in the way of wisdom and led you along straight paths.
When our girls were younger, we often spoke about "the company you keep." I know they listened because we witnessed some "friends" stay around and some go. As I look back, it feels good to remember that they understood the rules and knew the love they had at home.
Prayer: Gracious God, Thank you for children who understood the importance of rules and live by them to this day with their own families. AMEM

Getting it straight
(Focus: for wisdom to emulate Jesus)
Proverbs 4:11
I guide you in the way of wisdom and led you along straight paths
Growing up in grade school I always loved the “three legged race” game. My friend and I practiced at recess. My left leg tied to her right leg inside a pillow case. I loved how fast we could run if we stayed in step. But if we were out of step our bodies would clash knocking into each other. We had to stop and adjust or we’d fall flat on our faces. Walking with Jesus is like a three legged race.…
Proverbs 4:11
Even our most beloved mentors are human, with all that entails, both good and bad. I am grateful for all of the educational, spiritual and professional mentors God has placed in my life. At the same time I have come to learn my ultimate mentor is Jesus. It is the Son who instructs me in the way of wisdom
and leads me along straight paths. It has become evident over the years that this process of sanctification is a life-long journey, but it is infinitely more fulfilling and life-affirming than the short, easy path of selfish hedonism and disregard for others that Satan would have me follow.
Prayer - God of wisdom, it is Your path I strive…
