John 13:34
”A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
Jesus goes on to say this is how others will know we are disciples of Jesus: by our love for one another. In a healthy family, the love for each member is strong and unconditional. Jesus teaches us to love one another in the same way he has loved us. His love for us is certainly unconditional. As I write this, I am reminded: we don’t look at our own family to understand God’s way of loving- we look to God to understand how we can better love one another on this earth, in and outside our own families.
Father God, you are the head of this family of believers of which I am a small part. Help me to learn how to love each member of this family in an unconditional and Christ-like way. Amen

John 13-34
A new command I give you, love one another as I have loved you,so you must love one another.
Jesus said that people would recognize us as disciples by our expression of love and unselfish concern for one another. We may dislike some people but when we don’t care enough to help them when they have troubles and problems we are not acting with love. To make matters worse we often judge others and think if they really loved God they would not be in this predicament . This attitude allows Satan the opportunity to separate us from those who may need our love the most.
We all make mistakes and have weaknesses. God didn’t…
John 13:34 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
Jesus’ love was so complete that he did not condemn Judas for what he was about to do. I can never hope to reach that goal. I read another verse this morning that seems to set a more achievable goal for me:
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Colossians 3:12 NIV
Dear Lord, thank you for setting goals that challenge me. Amen.
John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
I know I can never love as Jesus loved no matter how hard I try. But I can trust in Him and attempt to be a new creation in Christ Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit. With this help I hope to fulfill this command to love as Christ loves me.
Dearest Lord, give me the grace, through the Holy Spirit, to learn to love as Christ has loved me. This love You and your Son have for me is so insurmountable in my mind. Thank you for the love and understanding you have for me.…
John 13:34
There are people who require a special measure of love in every family. They may have a difficult personality, have a penchant for behaving badly or other unfortunate trait. I have seen over the years the results of both estrangement of that person from the family and efforts to support the wayward family member. Both paths are difficult, but only one bears any hope of redemption. God has commanded that we not only love these individuals but also those in the same categories who are not our blood kin, a path more difficult still. Yet, if we are to be transformed in the image of Christ, this is our charge.
