Psalm 27:10

Though my father and mother forsake me,

the Lord will receive me.

In this earthly life, there is generally no one who can be more reliably counted-on to have our back, than our parents. But David notes in this psalm, that even if our parents desert us, God still is here for us, just waiting for us to turn to him. We can always count on Him. I can think of a few times in my life when I suffered with a “secret” or a painful truth and felt I had no earthly person to talk to about it. This has not happened for many, many years, and I am so thankful that it need never happen again. I would no doubt have done better if I had had a closer relationship with God.

Holy Lord, no matter how alone we feel, we are not alone, and need only to turn to you. Amen

Psalm 27:10

Many can forsake me, but I will always have God to turn to, even when my faith is shaken. I cannot imagine my parents ever, ever forsaking me. Losing supportive parents is very difficult. I lost my dad in 1989 and when in 2020 I lost my mom, the second half of “Team Katie”, the notion of not having any living earthly parents is hard to bear and the loneliness associated with it is profound. Fortunately, I had God to turn to and carry me through.

Dear God, thank you for being by my side, always and holding me through lonely times. Amen.

Psalm 27:10

For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.

Just  look around to see the difficulties we are living in. Verse 10 is a painful rejection David is feeling, having been abandoned by a father and mother. Overcoming the pain of  rejection is certainly not easy especially when it comes from someone we love or expect to love. In this Psalm, David is sharing his courageous trust in the Lord. He writes words from his heart that tells us how confident he is in the Lord, asking  the Lord for his blessings and his protection. This Psalm is one of loneliness , but it is also…

Psalm 27:10

Whether as a child or as an adult to learn the lesson of God's amazing love is so important. To know He is always there is such a comfort no matter the reason. He will not only hold you close, but he will teach and guide you in the right way. If you believe and accept His love, you will never be lonely.

Prayer: Gracious God, I thank you for the comfort I feel knowing you are always with me. AMEN

Psalm 27:10

Estrangement from one’s parents is a concept I have difficulty imagining, despite how frequently it seems to occur. The emptiness this must produce in life must be profound and even a cursory look at the state of our world can reveal the cost of these broken relationships. If it could be made clear to them the Lord will receive them, I wonder if much of their emptiness could be replaced with a sense of belonging and being loved. While it is the Holy Spirit who opens their heart, it is our duty as Christ followers to point those in such pain to the Spirit for healing to occur.

Prayer - Merciful God, help me effectively share the good…
