A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, January 19

John 3:3

In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”

I can’t even begin to know all Jesus was saying with this simple response. But we become different people when we choose to follow Jesus. We are transformed into beings with power we hardly know how to handle. This brings to mind the music we talked about last night: “Same Power” by Jeremy Camp. Take a listen sometime. Being reborn carries with it an awesome responsibility.

Holy Father, help me, I pray. Thank you for all of the ways you will guide me today, and for the power you have settled in my heart. Amen

John 3:3 Rebirth or being born again was an important lesson that Jesus taught to Nicodemus. Jesus answered him, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said to him, How can a man be born when he is old. Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. To be born again you must confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lor…

John 3:3 I used to bristle at the term born again because I understood it to mean that I had to openly accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior as an adult. At least that’s how I had heard it from others. I had always believed Jesus was my savior and I loved him from a child of about 10 or 12. It is true that that knowledge and its responsibilities grew as I did. Now I know that the Holy Spirit can reside in me and be my guide through life. I still don’t think I have to proclaim to be born again, I just have to walk with Jesus daily. Prayer: gracious God, thank you for being with me always…

John 3: 3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

I feel being born again is by learning more about my faith and the grace given to me by God. Grace is the gift from God that helps us understand being born again. It is through our faith in Jesus Christ that we are born again and will see the kingdom of heaven. Believing in Jesus Christ is the way of pleasing God.

Dearest Lord, thank you for the gift of eternal life through my belief in your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank you for this second chance of knowing more about you through your Word and the…

John 3:3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

What does it really mean to be born again? I have always hesitated to think of myself being born again because of what it might mean to my way of life. I have been very satisfied with my life for most of it and didn’t really want to change it. I have never experienced a specific time when I suddenly believed in God and Jesus. Does that mean that my rebirth was a gradual process?

Dear Lord, I don’t really understand rebirth, probably because I am too literal in my thinking. I do know that I believe and…

John 3:3

It is Important not to overlook the specific sequence of events to which Jesus referred. One does not come to faith because they saw the kingdom of God and now believe. Rather it is only after we repent of our sin, turn to God in our helpless state and place our trust in salvation by the grace of God alone that we can gain glimpses of the kingdom of God. Failure to yield to God’s prevenient grace keeps so many from taking the next step to eternal life. We must continue to work hard to help convince them of the Good News enabling that first leap of faith and new birth.

Prayer - Lord, let me be an…
