Lamentations 3:22-23
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
These verses make me think about mercy as an extension of love. If God did not love us, there would be no reason for him to be merciful to us. And likewise, we show our love for others by being merciful, non-judgmental and fair. These verses also imply that we have not earned God’s mercy; God’s compassion overlooks our mistakes and our sins.
Holy One, You are the perfect teacher, through your word and your example, and the example above all, Jesus Christ. I am sorry for the times I have not shown mercy to others. I do not intentionally hold back mercy, but I may miss opportunities. Help me to put my needs after others’. Amen

Just as we live with the certainty that the sun will rise in the morning, believers can trust and know that God's strong love and faithfulness will greet us again each day and his tender mercies will be renewed every morning. God does not show mercy just for a specific affliction, His mercy is on-going forever. I read the following in Chambers devotion this morning: God does not give us overcoming life—He gives us life as we overcome. Just as it is better to teach a person to fish rather than feed him once, God gives us the tools to overcome daily. That is true mercy.
Dear Lord thank you for the strength to overcome daily. Because of you, no trouble is to great. Amen.
Lamentations 3:22-23 This verse is part of one of our great old hymns – “great is thy faithfulness.”We are reminded in the chorus of God‘s faithfulness and mercy. Mercy that is there for us at the start of each day. Yesterday is gone, forgiven, and forgotten. We can start each day new and fresh. The composer says we have pardon for sin and hope for tomorrow. We should take this lesson and apply it to others. We should forgive and forget. We should offer mercy to all because as the song says “all I have needed thy hand has provided.” Prayer: Gracious God may I learn to give to others what you have given to me. Amen

God’s faithfulness is a gift from Him and is a gift we can always rely upon. God will always be with us. Our family and friends may not always live up to our expectations, but God faithfulness will always be with us. No matter what we do or don’t do, God will always be there for us and show us His mercy and love forever.

Lamentations 3:22-23
Authorship of Lamentations is traditionally attributed to the prophet Jeremiah. His reputation as “the crying prophet” makes this make sense, but these two verses contain all the hope of Scripture. Thomas Chisholm beautifully captured them in his 1923 hymn. I cannot read these verses and not hear “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” So profound is the truth of God’s compassion and mercy, this hymn remains a congregational favorite even in contemporary worship.
