Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened; and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
This metaphor has always been confusing to me. The burden Jesus carried was not a light one. But I get the idea; we can lighten our burden if we rely more on Christ and less on ourselves. Maybe Jesus is saying, "Count more on me, and less on yourselves. I can handle it." Rest in Jesus. I know I do not do this simple thing nearly often enough.
Holy One, my mind and heart are so often full of stressful worry. Help me to see the opportunities for rest during my times of stress. It is rest in you which I need. Amen

I feel we all have faced burdens in our lives and have become weary, for different reasons at different times. When we are weary, we can become discouraged. In those moments I feel that the hope that Jesus provides will see us through and build up our belief in Him. I feel this is where the fellowship we find in our church gives us the support…

Matthew 11:28-30
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is
light.”
In this message Jesus assures us he will never lay heavy laden on us. If we keep company with him we will surely learn to trust and depend upon him totally….. I’m sure we have had enough heavy burdens in our lives. As I grow in my spiritual journey I am learning just how much I do depend on all that Jesu…

Jesus’ burden, that he took on from God, certainly was not light or easy, but He is telling us that the burden that he places on us is easy and will give us rest. That burden is to follow his teachings of love and believing in Him will bring us peace. My thoughts become restful when thinking of him.
Dear Lord the burden that you put on…
I think that many times I have been trying to get something done on my own when I should be turning to the Lord for guidance. Why is that so hard to do? Why do I think I can handle everything myself? I think it is about control we want over our lives.
Dear Lord, Please help me to remember to bring my cares and concerns to you. Help me to remember that you are always there for us in good times and in bad. Amen.
Matthew 11:28–30
We know Jesus understood rest. He went off by himself in prayer on a regular basis. In this verse, we are being told to do the same thing. Turn to Jesus, partner with Jesus, and your burdens will be lighter. We would be better off if we followed this advice, instead of trying it alone. We need to partner with Jesus in all things.
At Hillside we sing in anthem called “ come learn from me.” The lyrics are directly from this verse.
