A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, August 30

Colossians 3:8-10

But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

The way we talk to others and our choice of words do not go unnoticed. We know it is God's wish for us to set ourselves apart from the world and worldly ways. I feel as if using foul language is conforming to the world. I feel a little ashamed when I do fall into that way of speaking, because it does occasionally happen. But the less I let it happen, the more aware I am, and hopefully I continue to transform.

Holy Lord, help me to measure and choose my words carefully, especially when I am full of emotion. I want to reflect Jesus' love, at all times, in all places. Amen

Becky, transforming

Colossians 3:8-10 This is a great lesson that we as Christian do recognize but sometimes don’t understand or always follow. I sometimes find myself getting very frustrated and even angry when I feel that no one is really listening to me or your voice just doesn’t matter, or what you say is not heard or just plan ignored, or not important , it’s an awful feeling, or is it? We all have at sometime spoken before we even think, it reminds me of that great statement “What would Jesus Do?”…..

Good and Gracious God, Help me to see thee more clearly and remember to task What would Jesus Do? Before I speak. Amen

Colossians 3:8-10

But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.

When we enter into a relationship with Christ through faith, the Spirit gives us new desires that reflect Christ and a new power. And because of this faith we can exchange this feeling that comes from abused anger to righteous anger that can only come from the love of God. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of…

Colossians 3:8-10

The song says, “they will know we are Christians by our love.” Perhaps, as Paul says here, “they will know we are Christians by the way we speak to and with each other.” These verses remind us that we must always be aware of both our words and actions and how they tell others who we are.

Prayer: Gracious God, May I always speak with calmness and love. amen
