A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, September 29

Acts 1: 1-8

Matthew 28:18-20

Matthew 28: 19 โ€œ Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,โ€

I love reading these words of Jesus, which always bring to mind the beautiful motion of forming the cross on oneโ€™s body as the words are said. I have always secretly wished Methodists made this same motion. Why are the Catholics the only ones who get to do that? ๐Ÿ˜‰ To me, it is like inviting God into my very being. And to go a step further, it can symbolize the action of opening my heart-window, fully and intentionally.

Holy Lord, what do you think of this idea? It is okay for me to do this, right? My heart is open to you, please fill me up with your Spirit and I will do my best to lead others to you, and as always, starting by cleaning up my own act. Amen

Acts 1:1-8๏ปฟ Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and said to them, โ€œAll authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.โ€ God sent Jesus to earth to live among us. His ministry began when he was about 30 years old. ย Heย ย chose certain disciples to live and travel with him. He taught them many things. They witnessed many miracles, Jesus spent time teaching them, courage, boldness, confidence, insight, ability and authority. Hโ€ฆ

Acts 1:8 - โ€œBut you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.โ€

One of my favorite verses, this reminds me that witness is part of the Christian life and that our witness is powered by the Holy Spirit. โ€œWitnessโ€œ should not be misunderstood as browbeating or conveying any sense of superiority. It is simply sharing with others what faith in Christ and the relationship that brings has done for me personally. My Christian testimony or witness, just like my professional testimony in a court of law, is descriptive not prescriptive. We share, not to tell otherโ€ฆ

Becky,

I like the idea of making the sign of the cross if it is done with the feeling that you describe. I discussed the rituals that the Catholics preform with Barbara a few days ago. I said that I thought that the prayers and other things recited during mass seem to be done without feeling -- unlike the way we recite with feeling. It's the same with the sign of the cross. I see it done so fast that is just a meaningless gesture. Maybe we can start a trend.

20200929 Tue, Daily Devotion - Matthew 28:20

โ€œI am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amenโ€ (Matthew 28:20)

No other promise is better than the promise of Jesus, โ€œI am with you always, even unto the end of the world.โ€ I respond to this promise โ€œAMEN and AMEN!โ€ Like a movie title, โ€œNothing better than thisโ€ Jesus, the Lord of the lords, the King of the kings promised this to the people who want to follow Him. It is the happiest time when I am with the person I want to be. Jesus promised with me โ€œI am with you always, even unto the end of the world.โ€ I live with the best One always, evenโ€ฆ
