Romans 12:1
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-- this is your true and proper worship.
"A living sacrifice"-- what exactly does that mean for us today? I am reminded of that expression that has become very popular over the last few years: to "lean into" something. I sense that God would be pleased with his creation leaning into service and caring for one another. The sense of physically moving forward, and not holding back, fits nicely with the goal of being a living sacrifice. For that time which we are spending caring for others and loving others, we are giving up concern for ourselves.
Lord God, May I be a living sacrifice for you. Help me to find more ways to be kind and to love your creation. Amen

Romans 12:1 This verse represents a key pivot point in Paul’s letter to Rome. In the first 11 chapters he lays out the essentials of the faith. The “therefore” that opens chapter 12 signals his application of these principles to life in the church and life in the world. As Christ sacrificed His very life, we are to carry on His work as “living sacrifices” to show others the way to the foot of the Cross and eternal life. This can only be done if we diligently “put on Christ” in our daily lives as automatically as we put on our clothes.
