A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, November 9

Luke 6:17-19

He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coast of Tyre and Sidon, who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.

What an amazing demonstration of God’s power! Jesus was healing many people that day, who could physically feel His power. The healing led people to Jesus to hear his message and ultimately follow Him. I believe the healing was the means to an end, not the end itself. Is it the same today? When we hear of miraculous healing are we moved to tell others about it? Do we help to bring others to Christ?

Father God, you are the maker of all miracles, all healing, and all creation. This knowledge will continue to bring others to you. I can help that to happen by being courageous and talking more about you, sharing with others what I believe. Amen

Luke 6:17-19 And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.

Everywhere Jesus went, within a short amount of time, crowds gathered around him. It wasn’t because he made an announcement that he was coming. He usually spent all night with the father and the holy ghost praying.. Those who had heard…

Luke 6: 17-19

We all want to hear God’s word and be healed. To hear something worth hearing and be able to use it to do better each day. To be healed of a physical ailment, emotional, social and spiritual needs are important as well. Jesus came to meet our needs, then and now. This is not the same as meeting our wants and desires. Jesus knows what we need and heals our soul. Jesus gives us emotional and spiritual healing as he sees fit. The people of old flocked to him then and many of us still do.

Dearest Lord, thank…

Luke 6 17:19

There was a priest in Worcester years ago who held a healing ceremony one night a week. I never knew anyone who was healed by him and always doubted that anyone had that power. I do believe in the power of prayer to heal. I think there are many instances of physical and mental healing that cannot be explained by science.

Dear Lord we pray for the healing of people often and sometimes they are helped by healing and sometimes by the comforting knowledge of prayers being offered. Those prayer help the subject of them but also those of us who offer them. Thank you. Amen.

Luke 6:17-19 I would much rather think of something else, but this passage brought to mind the shameful scenes of cynical “faith healers” who have done much harm to desperate and gullible people, and worse, to the cause and message of Christ. If Jesus were to return today and heal dozens on the spot, would our reaction be to fall down in worship or to stand back in doubt, trying to figure out where the fakery can be exposed? This is the legacy of those exploit the life and work of Jesus for personal gain. Our focus must be Jesus alone and when He comes to heal all in the new heaven and new earth, the Holy Spirit in us will…

Luke 6:17-19 After welcoming the 12 into his inner circle, we have this crowd scene of healing. Such power and such responsibility. It is said people could feel the energy coming from him. I am sure they had heard that you only need to touch his garments to be healed. They had come for two reasons, healing and to hear his words. The words that follow these verses are the blessing of the beatitudes. While I am sure no one forgot the miracle of the healings, I wonder how many heard, really heard, his blessing. While the healings are spectacular, the blessings can stay with you forever. Prayer: gracious God made the message Jesus brought us be first on our minds eac…
