Psalm 27:4

One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

I feel as if I see so much beauty in this world, in God's creation, it is hard to imagine the beauty of God, Himself. What will that be like? Do I have any concept of true beauty, having never been face to face with God? I believe that the beauty we will witness in God's presence, for eternity, will be on a new level. But I am so very thankful for the gifts God has given us in this life- the beauty of the earth, each other, love and friendship, art and music.

Father God, thank you for all of your beautiful gifts, and most importantly, the ability to enjoy them and recognize them as beautiful. You are generous beyond words. You know my heart, and my successes and failures, and you still love me. I am grateful. Amen

Psalm 27:4 There is so much beauty on this earth that you have created Lord. I really cannot imagine that the next place of my life could contain even more beauty. But I know it will be perfect, and I will be with all those I have loved. That, in itself, will be paradise. Prayer: gracious God, there are so many mysteries about you and your world, but I trust that it will be perfect. Amen

Psalm 27:4

One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

David is asking God for help and is confident in God’s ability to help him with his fear and loneliness. As I read the beginning of Psalms 27:4 One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek. So if I could have anything, if I could ask for one thing, what would I ask for. Being honest would I ask for something material, some gift that God might give, some wa…

Psalm 27:4 One thing I ask of the Lord, this only so I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

David’s top priority in life was his relationship with God. This should be mine as well. Sometimes the challenges we have in our lives bring us closer to God. Believing and worshiping God deepens our faith and through that faith we are looking forward to that wonderful, beautiful eternal life with the Lord our God.

Dearest Lord, you give us a glimpse of the beauty we will have in heaven in this world, and I…

Psalm 27:4

i was struck by the psalmist’s echo of the last line of Psalm 23 in this morning’s reading. What could be more beautiful than the assurance that one “dwells in the house of the Lord”? There is no value in being distracted by the pockets of confusion and ugliness in our world driven by Satan. The Christian knows the battle is won and eternity with God will eclipse even the most beautiful visions and experiences we have enjoyed in this life.

Prayer - Eternal God, Your unsurpassed beauty is the stuff of dreams, beyond human comprehension. Yet the anticipation of being in the presence of such beauty in the temple of heaven is a part of what draws…
