A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, May 25

Romans 8: 1-8

verses 1-2: Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

I have been forgiven; forgiveness is mine. It doesn’t hurt to remember to ask, however. Sometimes when we have something in abundance we lose track of its value and even its importance. I know that is true for me. God has given me so many gifts: His constant grace, forgiveness of my sins, the promise of eternal life with Him. Although I know I am forgiven, by asking God for forgiveness and then thanking Him for all of His gifts, things are more likely to stay in perspective for me.

Holy Father, I am truly thankful. Help me to be your light shining out to others. You have given me so much- may I be generous as well. Forgive me, Lord, for all of my sins. Help me to stay on track. Amen

Romans 8: 1-8

2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

The law of the Spirit. A gift from God through Jesus Christ. We are set free from the old law and are now under the new covenant, the Law of Christ. As long as we believe in Jesus and do our best to do well and follow the lessons taught by Jesus, we will be saved.

Dearest Lord, the gift of the Holy Spirit was a wonderful addition to our redemption by your Son. The Holy Spirit works with me daily to offer hope and keep me in line. Thank you for all…

Romans 8:3a - “For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do:”

Remember Jack Nicholson in “A Few Good Men”? He snarled, “Truth? You can’t handle the truth.” We couldn’t handle the law. From the Fall and throughout human history we push, stretch, stress and distort the law. We rationalize every deviation from the law with some excuse that makes us feel better. God mercifully put an end to this charade with His Son. Why everyone does not accept the gift of grace remains a puzzle to me, but perhaps working toward that end is part of a believer’s purpose in this life.

Prayer - God of reconciliation, make me a more effective witness of…
