A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, May 12

Psalm 30:1-12

I will exalt you, LORD,

for you lifted me out of the depths

and did not let my enemies gloat over me.

LORD my God, I called to you for help,

and you healed me.

You, LORD, brought me up from the realm of the dead;

you spared me from going down to the pit.

Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people;

praise his holy name.

For his anger lasts only a moment,

but his favor lasts a lifetime;

weeping may stay for the night,

but rejoicing comes in the morning.

When I felt secure, I said,

“I will never be shaken.”

LORD, when you favored me,

you made my royal mountain stand firm;

but when you hid your face,

I was dismayed.

To you, LORD, I called;

to the Lord I cried for mercy:

“What is gained if I am silenced,

if I go down to the pit?

Will the dust praise you?

Will it proclaim your faithfulness?

Hear, LORD, and be merciful to me;

LORD, be my help. ”

You turned my wailing into dancing;

you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,

that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent.

LORD my God, I will praise you forever.

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

It is astounding to me that no matter how dismal things may appear, God always provides a light at the end of the tunnel. It is often not the light we were expecting, or it may be a light on a totally different path, or it may be a light that seems very tiny and far away, and still requires many steps to reach. But there is always an answer, a change, a new thing, a new hope. May we never lose faith, never lose hope, and continue to follow God.

Holy Lord, help me to keep my eyes on you, and my hope in you. Amen

Psalm 30:1-12/Jeremiah 29:11

It was sobering to read how desperately the Upper Room contributor wanted an education, but did not have the resources to pay for it, while in this country so many utterly waste the education given to them paid for by taxpayers. Thank God for the wisdom and compassion of the principal who recognized her gifts and admitted her. Every Christian should bear in mind they may well be an integral part of the plans God has for someone in need, “plans to prosper [them] and not to harm [them], plans to give [them] hope and a future.”

Prayer - Merciful God, please open my heart and mind to the many opportunities You have provided for me to give…
