1 John 5:3-5
In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
Again we are reminded that all we need in this world is ours through Christ. By this I mean all we need to overcome the pull and the temptations of the world, and any evil forces in the world is our faith in Christ Jesus. This is the armor of God. I think sometimes I lose track of this power and this protection, and forget to ask for help. Or, I don't even realize I need help until I am in a mess.
Father God, I am thankful for the armor you provide for me to fight off evil. Help me to remember to use it. Amen

Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome’s. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the son of God.
Who can win the battle against the evil of this world? Those of us who believe Jesus is the son of God. Loving him means keeping his commandments and that’s not difficult. Our faith is our armor and will give us victory.
John’s words are simple enough that I felt the need to rearrange the verses.

1 John 5:3-5 This passage in 1John echoes the words of Jesus in John’s gospel. Jesus told the disciples that in this world we will have trouble, “but take courage, I have overcome the world.” This power is made available to us through the Holy Spirit. We have been given what we need to fight and win the battles of spiritual warfare faced every single day. We too, can overcome the world. Starting our day with Scripture is the way to put on the armor we need to protect us as we wade into the battle.
