A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, July 13

Psalm 86: 1-7

Hear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am devoted to you. You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long. Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me.

These verses alone are a complete and beautiful prayer. I could say these words today and every day, to express my faith and love to God. David asks for protection and mercy. He asks for joy, knowing his very soul belongs to God. Today, let me live in this faith and love and protection. Amen

Psalm 86:1-7 7. I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble, and you will answer me. I have a book, “The remarkable prayers of the Bible.” Prayers meaning people not words. The chapter on David focuses on his trust. During his life he trusted God for everything even forgiveness for his sins, and gave God his praise and trust that he was always listening. From his time as a young shepherd boy to his time as a warrior and king, David trusted God to hear his prayers and answer them. Oh, to have such a firm faith. I know I fall short here and often think I have control over a situation until it falls apart and I realize who…

The book of Psalms is probably one of my favorite books of the Bible. David prayed without ceasing. There are times when we do not know what to pray for or about. We need to remember to take our concerns as well as thankfulness for all we have to God every day. Learning to listen to His voice is not always easy when the noise of the world is every present.

Dear God, Help me to be ever mindful of my need to bring my concerns to you in prayer. Amen.

Psalm 86:5 - “ For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you.”

Part of my neediness is the knowledge if of how often I require the Lord’s forgiveness. It is difficult to imagine this kind of patience and forbearance, but God has seem seen fit to provide a real life example in a marriage of 34 years and counting. God’s gifts and lessons for living often come in the same beautiful packages.

Prayer - God of forgiveness, thank You for Your gifts of mercy and love. Equip me to pass them on to all as You have freely given them to me. Amen

Psalm 86:1-7

David knew that the Lord was aware of everything that was in his life and in his thoughts. And yet he prayed constantly for help and mercy. I believe that God knows all, but when we have problems and pray, we focus on how God can help us and I think that gives us confidence in a good outcome.

Dear Lord, You know when I am having a problem but I pray for your help and you give me the help I need to solve it or accept it. Amen.

Psalm 86: 1-7

1 Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.

I feel that I am always asking God for help in some way. Whether it be to curb my temper, keep from saying something in haste, or help for others, I am always asking. I have to remember to put God first, then everything will fall into place. Perhaps then, I won’t need to ask God for so much. After all, God is the key to everything.

Dearest Lord, help me to learn to pray better. Let my prayers be those of praise for you instead of always asking for something. You already know my needs, so help me pray to you in praise…
