A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, January 9

Matthew 6:33-34

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

But worrying about tomorrow is my specialty!! These words from Jesus are particularly important for me. It is so easy to waste time thinking about what could go wrong; and this can apply to goal-setting. If I have prayed about my goal, and am walking with God, there is no place for worry. I am doing the right thing, and even if there are little bumps in the road, God will walk me through them.

Holy Lord, Where would I be without you? I am so thankful, and I am so grateful you have given us your Word in holy scripture to help us daily. Thank-you, Lord. Amen

Matthew 6:33-34

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day has enough trouble of it’s own.

Any time we become worried or anxious for our everyday needs we can find encouragement In these verses. God knows exactly what we need and he promises to provide for us. If we truly believe this passage we realize there truly is no reason to worry. Jesus does not stop. We know he will provide. Matthew 6:33-34

If there is one goal I should pray about, it is to control my worry. My brain takes over in some situations and takes me down lonely roads and over mountains that change nothing except my well-being. I try to distract myself and try to talk myself out of the worry and into the reality that my worry will change nothing. Sometimes it works, but when it doesn’t, I am a mess!

Prayer: Gracious God I do know that my worry changes nothing, but I need your intervention. Help me turn to prayer in those situations. Amen

Matthew 6:33-34

I recently heard Rick Warren say, “God provides the grace we need when we need it.” I will most certainly face difficulty tomorrow, next week or next month, but the point is God will be with me then, just as God is with me now. This being so, worrying about it is simply a waste of emotional energy. My task is to make the kingdom of God my priority. If this remains the goal ever before me, God will provide the grace I need when I need it.

Prayer - Help me Lord, to cast my worries on You, for I know You hold my life in your hands with an everlasting love. Amen

Oh my, do I ever need this lesson I’m a Master at worrying!!! Even here in England I get now from my kids are you going to worry about that too???

I have a sign in my kitchen that is so fitting for this very scripture because it’s actually another scripture in the Bible : Philippians 4:6-7

Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and THANK HIM for all he has done! Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Trying to prepare myself for Dad‘s passing and yes worrying about the whole picture even though…
