A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, January 17

Psalm 94: 18-19

When I said, "My foot is slipping," your unfailing love, Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.

John 16:33

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

God's strength and love is sufficient to bring us peace no matter what in this world brings us despair. God does not promise a life without despair, but he does promise peace and joy through Him. The psalms are full of thankful reminders of this relationship.

Holy One, I am thankful to you for so much- for everything, really, as I would not be here today if it were not for your love in my life. You have provided for my every need. You have kept me from despair, and heard my cries for peace. I am yours. Amen

Psalm 94:18-19

When I thought, “My foot slips,” your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up. When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.

It’s simple — with too much stress, you can’t enjoy your life. It also puts your health at risk, and contributes to a host of problems — anxiety, insomnia, fatigue and more God's Word is loaded with promises that teach us about having faith in God during hard times. He tells us to not worry, to pray, and He will give us peace like you can't imagine. He tells us that He is there with us, and even after the struggle, He will strengthen and calm us.…

Psalm 94:18–19 and John 16:33

Comfort and peace or what we seek in our despair. As Christians, we know these are only a few of the insurances that our Bibles contain that offer this to us. Both the old and new Testaments offer reassurance of both God’s love and also his son. Although we don’t know the author of Psalm 94, we do know that the Psalms are often telling us to turn to God. John 16:33 is Jesus voice doing the same for his disciples – and us.

Prayer: gracious God may I be like the Psalmist and always turn to you for comfort and peace. Amen

Psalm 94: 18-19 When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, LORD, supported me. 19 When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.

John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Turning to God when life sends me challenges is now the first thing I do. There were times when I attempted to work out my problems on my own, but now I turn to Jesus first. Whatever challenges life sends me I will always remember the reason we should not despair. God is always there for me, and I am forever…

Psalm 94: 18-19/John 16:33

The psalmist wrote from the perspective of a life of faith and the experience of the promise of God’s consolation. John quotes the words of the promise spoken by its very author, God the Son. John both lived God’s consolation and lived with the incarnation of the consolation of God. Our faith today is based on the hope of the Old Testament and the confidence of the New Testament. Jesus is alive and with us to overcome our inevitable troubles with His unfailing love.

Prayer - Jesus, thank You for Your unfailing love. You promise overcome the world and obliterate any power that may be wielded by despair. In You is our strength for today and…
