A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, February 6

2 Corinthians 5:20

We are therefore Christ's embassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.

This is a very convicting statement. As an embassador of Christ, I represent Him at all times, to everyone I meet. There is no "sometimes" implied here. This needs to be part of my conscious identity. This needs to be how I meet new people, how I greet those I already know, how I approach a conflict, how I offer forgiveness, how I respond to one who is hurting, or in need, or afraid. What would Jesus do?

Holy Lord, help me to live this scripture out, every day, in every circumstance. Amen

2 Corinthians 5:20

What a responsibility we have. When people see and hear us and observe our actions, what do they see? Do they see Christian love or something else? We never know when what we say or do determines someone else’s perception of God. I hope I have never made someone turn away because of my words or actions. Like yesterday’s song says, “They will know we are Christians by our Love.”

Prayer: Gracious God, Forgive me if I have not represented you as you wish I would. I will always try to be a go…

2 Corinthians 5:20

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

The truth is that our actions speak volumes more to people around us than what we say. We can think that we are representing Christ if we are often speaking of Him to others. But it is our life – our decisions, what we do, and what we don’t do in the daily situations – that truly speaks to others the most. I am an example to others, no matter how I live. The question is whether I am a good example, or a bad example. I can say i…

2 Corinthians 5:20

The Oxford dictionary defines “ambassador” as “a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity.” This so perfectly describes a critical aspect of Christian identity. God cannot be seen, but God’s presence is felt daily by those who believe. Our task is therefore to act as God’s representatives and promote the fruit of the Spirit as a way to live with others in a productive and harmonious manner. Reconciliation with God was the foundational purpose of Jesus’ incarnation, life, death and resurrection. We are the instruments God uses to continue that mission. No ambassador who is ashamed of or indifferent to what they represent can effectively promote their cause. We must be like…
