A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, December 31

2Corinthians 4:16-18

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Often this is very challenging to live out. I am pretty much convinced that grieving over our youth is a part of life. People love to complain about getting older. I just read a piece yesterday written by a woman who was amazed at how “invisible” she became when her hair turned grey. I have been grey since my 40s. Our bodies and our present lives are what we see and feel each and every day. Our faith is in our hearts. This is where we find renewal. With God, renewal is ours each and every day.

Holy Lord, I pray today for spiritual renewal for all of mankind. Help me to stay strong in my faith, and to hold to the path you have set before me. Amen

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Although I know this life is temporary, I am grateful for the blessings I have and I look forward to what is to come. Each day it gets easier to anticipate with joy.

Heavenly father, thank you for the unseen. Amen

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

As we age and our health is more of a challenge, we cannot give up. Our heart and our hope should always be on God. When things are different for us, we should look for new and different ways to serve. The important thing is to serve.--Did you always visit shut ins and now you can't drive, well phone calls and cards can still keep you in touch. There is always a way to serve.

Prayer: Gracious God, May I never stop serving you. May I always find a way to share your love with others. This offers me spiritual renewal. AMEN

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

As I continue to  grow in spiritual maturity, my inner self, guided by the Holy Spirit is being renewed each time I lose heart. God never promised me a rose garden,🪴 and I am beginning to understand why…

2Corinthians 4:16-18

I used to play softball in a church league with members of the ecumenical men’s group I belong to in Concord. I vividly remember making the decision that it was my last season when I could not longer run or effectively play defense. Even though I was failing physically, I remained active in the group which meets on Saturday morning. This is a place of inner renewal and prayerful sharing of our light and momentary troubles of daily living. Together, as with the Transformers, we are striving for God’s eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

Prayer - Sovereign God, help us fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is…
