John 1:1-14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God — children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Over recent weeks in Transformers we have talked a lot about seeing God at work in the world and in our lives. We agreed it is difficult (impossible) to see all of the helps and lights and points of guidance God puts in our path. We can’t possibly see or appreciate all of the ways God helps us along each day. But when we are in conversation with God, letting Him know our concerns and our fears, being thankful, I believe it is easier to see his gifts. Just yesterday I had a conversation with a woman I never would have guessed would approach me. She was so kind and helpful yet genuine in her reserved self. God is placing people in my path, and I am so grateful.
Holy Lord, thank-you for all of it- this life with all of its challenges. With you, I can do it. Amen

John1:1-14, 8:12
Light, there are so many references of it in the Bible and it is all around us here on earth, we can’t do without it. Whether it is the sun, fire, or artificial, we need it in our lives, it is powerful. Aside from all the practical reasons we need light, we seek the beauty of light as well, going to the beach to see a beautiful sunrise - the emergence of the light for our day, the dancing flames at night in a camp fire, a night light revealing the silhouette of a sleeping child, the examples are endless and God given. The most important light we have is the light of Christ in our lives…

Promise of light
(Focus: those who feel hopeless
John 8:12
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
In this verse Jesus is giving an explanation of who He is and what He was sent to do. He used the description of Himself as being light to define who He is. Light is the opposite of darkness. When light approaches darkness, darkness hides. I was at some point a stranger to the gospels and its truth; I am constantly being challenged to change by God’s truth and Light. Jesus is that Light. He is that Truth. …
John 1:1-14, 8:12
The theme of light permeates today’s verses - “the light of all mankind . . .The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it . . . The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world . . . ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” Light in the darkness is a powerful image that is simple enough for even a small child to understand, yet powerful enough to bring hope and comfort to anyone of any age or intellectual capacity. For those who wait on the Lord’s coming, last days of Advent are…
