A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, December 21

Micah 6:8

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

If we would only take these words to heart… What a difference this would make in our world!

Who could possibly argue with the wisdom of this verse? It could be so simple. But humans like to argue and to split hairs whenever there is an opportunity. We need to all do the right thing. Every time. Help us, God. Amen

Micah 6:8 In Micah’s time what was required to please God were sacrifices of all kinds. The previous verse even asked “should we sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for our sins?” No! God wants us to change our lives. The change seems relatively simple – be fair, just, merciful, and humble. We need to examine our behavior on a regular basis to be sure we are on the path of God’s design - doing right, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God. Prayer: gracious God, remind me regularly to assess my behavior. May It be pleasing to you. Amen

Micah 6: 8 He has shown you, O Mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

In regard to being obedient to God, I feel that Micah is telling me that God is more pleased with my actions then my words; and He is more satisfied with my obedience to Him. This new beginning is given to me through the new life we have in Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit, to be obedient to God.

Dearest Lord, thank you for sending your Son to us in order to enable us to walk humbly before You. It is with the help of…

Micah 6:8 He has shown you, o mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

This is one of the few verses that I had highlighted in my bible. If you do these things your life should be much improved and peaceful. But, like other commands from the bible, many daily obstacles interfere with our obedience. On the surface these three seem easy to fulfill but we still have to work at acting just and loving mercy and being humble in God’s sight.

Dear Lord your commands would improve my life but I need your help to be obedient to them. Amen.

Micah 6:8

Far too many in the church as well as many opponents of the church have misrepresented a life of faith as something far more complicated and legalistic than was ever described in Scripture. Centuries before Jesus uttered the Great Commandment, the prophet Micah distilled how to honor God into a simple, but profound statement. John Wesley had his own version of this in his three simple rules of life: Do Good

Do No Harm

Stay in Love With God

Rueben P, Job, author of a little book about Wesley’s rule of life states in his preface, “These are three simple rules that have the power to change the world. While they are ancient, they have seldom been fully…

Micah 6:8

He has showed you, O man, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you , to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God . This is another favorite verse in the Bible. It is simple in its message and easily understood. But it is also one of the most difficult to acquire, because of all the issues we are facing in today’s world. I think this is a great verse to write on an index card and place on your desk or refrigerator. It packs quite a punch; it’s practical and it is thought provoking. I want to walk humbly with God never thinking more of myself than I should. I do not consid…
