Ephesians 2: 8-9

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.

This passage reminded me of Pastor Gil’s question on Sunday- who can open the door to your heart? The painting of Jesus at the door lacks a knob on the outside of the door- the side where Jesus is standing, waiting. Our faith in Christ opens the door and opens our heart. God’s grace does all the rest. I am reminded again of God’s power in my life. His grace is free. Nothing I do on this earth will make me more or less likely to receive God’s grace other than to have faith. With God’s grace I am saved and empowered to do good works. I do not want to ignore or waste that power.

Holy Lord, full of grace, I am thankful. The gift of your Son is more than I can fully understand. But I do understand love. I understand love for precious children and for spouses and parents and treasured friends. It is by your grace I am able to experience this kind of love. And it is by your grace I am able to live in that love for others. Help me to act in love, always, in everything I do. Amen

Becky, transforming

Ephesians 2: 8-9

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith---and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God---not by works, so that no one can boast.

I always thought my faith was earned. However, in today’s reading I find that it is a gift from God. It makes it very clear that we are saved by God’s grace through faith. It is through God’s power that we are redeemed. God deserves all the glory, not us.

Dearest Lord, we put our faith in Jesus and we are brought into a relationship with our Creator. Thank you for all the grace you bestow on me and the faith that I have in you.…

Ephesians 2:8-9 When someone gives me a gift, I remember to say thank you. I would not ask how much do I own them. We can think of water flowing through a hose. The water is the important part, but it is communicated through the hose. The hose does not quench your thirst; the water does. But the hose brings water to the place you can benefit from it. when we have been given the gift of salvation god expects us in return o benefit from this by serve others with kindness, love and gentleness. These acts should not be done simply to please ourselves, but to do so for the benefit of our salvation. God did this simply…

Ephesians 2:8-9 - “ For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God—not the result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Grace is a hard concept for our modern human brain. John Ruskin, a 19th century industrialist and philanthropist is attributed with the famous quip, “There is no such thing as a free lunch.” That may be true for human transactions, but the most important transaction that could ever be made defies that principle. If more people understood God’s grace is indeed a gift, unmerited, unearned, but simply available for the asking, I can’t help but believe more people would say yes to God.

Ephesians 2:8-10 (NIV)

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

“no one can boast.”

Everybody has a story they want to tell. Some want to boast. Some want to share. Some want to teach. There would be tons of reasons to tell others. But Paul says in today’s scripture that “no one can boast about my salvation. In other words, we should not boast the fact…
