A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, August 25

Genesis 1:26-31

These passages describe the creation of man in God’s image. Then God blesses his creations. And then in verses 28 and 29:

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.“

After God created the heavens and the earth and filled the earth with plants and animals, he created man. And then he gives his entire creation to man! I read these verses last night before bed, and the first thing that came to my mind was the beauty and magnificence of this gift we have been given.

I remember once years ago I was talking to a coworker about making gifts for people. She had crocheted a blanket for a friend and had spent hours and hours on it. She was very pleased with it and excited to give it to her friend. Some time later when she visited her friend, she saw the blanket was lining the dog’s bed. :o(

God‘s creation was for us, and given to us to cherish and take good care of. How must God feel when I take this gift for granted or don’t respect it, or forget to be thankful? I can do better.

Holy Father, you created the heavens and the earth, and everything they hold. You created me! I am thankful beyond words. I will strive to be respectful and loving toward all of your creation, and will not forget theses things were given freely, as gifts to me and to all of us. Amen

20200825 Daily Devotion - Genesis 1:26-31

Whenever I read these scriptures, I remember ‘Stewardship.’ God gave us a huge responsibility and power to take care of almost everything on earth. A good and faithful steward give everything he or she was given from God to take care, manage, and serve them to live out their best life even with their potentials God has given. This mission is a huge work. What a wonderful privilege for us. I hope and pray that I can a good and faithful steward of God for the things given me from God.

Father, I thank you for taking me as a servant of God with a huge, wonderful, and great privilege. Please keep inspiring and…

Genesis 1: 26-31 God saw that all he created was very good.  I/we are part of God’s creation and he is pleased with how he made us.  At times we may feel worthless or of little value to God but he made us for a good reason and we are valuable to him.  Knowing that we are made in  God’s Image we can feel positive about ourselves. God rules over the earth and he does it with unimaginable love. He gives us the authority to be  responsible for the environment and all the other creatures who share our planet, We must not be careless and wasteful in carrying out this task.  God was careful when he made this earth, we shou…

Genesis 1:28 - “God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.’”

I wonder sometimes if this verse were translated differently we may have avoided some of the environmental difficulties we face today, but quickly come around to acknowledging that when Adam and Eve fell, all of us who came after bear the same penchant for disobedience. Greed, hedonism and other human foibles have taken “subdue” and “dominion” to depths God surely did not intend. Christians are people of the Book. That includes the…
