A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, August 22

Colossians 3:1-4

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

"Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things." This is the part of today's reading which speaks to me most clearly. Sometimes our minds can become so noisy and full of earthly concerns. This happens to me sometimes when I am trying to fall asleep. When I remember to turn to God, things quiet down.

Holy Lord, you are always here with me. You always listen. You always give me peace. I am so very thankful. Amen

To set my mind on things above doesn’t mean to just sit and think about heaven. I need to focus my mind on God’s will and knowing his will ,I will be able to be more focused on the best (or excellent) way to live. Wher…

Colossians 3:1-4 “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.“ What!? This phrasing sounds strange to the modern-day ear, but this imagery is seen frequently in the New Testament. It speaks to our “before and after.” The process of dying to sin and living for Christ takes many forms, but the bottom line is “the old has passed away; behold, the new has come.“ Even in our new state we sin, but as we own it, confess and renounce the sin we come to realize we are not slaves to the power of sin. You may have captured a moment, Satan, but you will never capture my soul, hidden with Christ in God.

Prayer - Jesus,…
