Matthew 8:23-27
Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
I know this message to be true, yet I still find myself afraid of the future. Not always, of course, or even every day. But there are certainly times when I am apprehensive about how things will turn out. These scriptural reminders of who is in charge are helpful to me. God is in control, and I cannot and will not change a single thing by worrying about it. I only change this moment I am living from one of potential peace and confidence to fear and apprehension. It does bring me comfort to remember this: things rarely happen in the way we expect (or fear) they will. God’s ways are not predictable or ordinary. But all of God’s ways lead to good, when we keep our eyes and hearts open to Him.
Holy Lord, I know that your ways are good and lead to good, even when life becomes painful. Help me to remain faithful and confident, drawing ever closer to you. Amen

Matthew 8:23-27 / Joshua 1:9
Trust is a really big deal in the military. There are so many situations where the outcome of life and death situations depend on trust. It can be very difficult in some of those scenarios, as it is with trusting God sometimes. We fight giving up the control. The big difference is who we put our trust in. The military leaders are every bit human as the ones in their charge and errors can occur. With God, He is our perfect leader, the One we can always depend on, the One who is ever present, the One who always had the perfect answer.
Heaven Father, thank You for Your presence in my life. Please help…
Matthew 8:23-27. Joshua 1:9 HAND IT OVER
For me, today’s devotion contains a message I desperately need. “We (I) waste time and energy worrying about things that never happen.” I try so hard to conquer this habit of worry. My worry morphs into imagining awful things and leads me into anxiety. I do try to tell myself to stop predicting things that will not happen. I’ve prayed for help to fill my mind with good thoughts. Sometimes it works but then the next time I start at the beginning first instead of prayer.
Prayer: Gracious God, help me turn to you the very moment my mind begins to worry. AMEN

Faith, hope and trust comprise the foundation of courage. My courage to face adversity doesn’t come from within me. I am like my favorite Wizard of Oz character, the cowardly lion, in that regard. Confidence that God is with me supplies all the courage I need.
Prayer - I will trust in You, Lord to shepherd me through all challenges, great and small. You are the source and f my courage. Amen
