Exodus 17:6
“I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.
The people were turning on Moses for leading them into the desert. They were thirsty and miserable. God provided for the people at this point, on many levels. He provided water, which was essential to their survival. He provided hope for their future and he made it possible for the people to once again trust and follow Moses. I am reminded that when God provides, there may be more than the obvious at play. I should be thankful for the many ways God provides for me, and look for the hidden blessings.
Holy Lord, help me to slow down and look for all of the ways which you bless me, each and every day. Amen

Exodus 17:6
It is amazing to me the many miracles God provided the Isrealites on their journey. They were happy to pack their food and belongings and leave slavery behind, but soon encountered many obstacles. They had to cross the Red Sea-God parted it. Then their food ran out-God provided Manna and now they need water and God instructs Moses what to do. Best of all, however, God provided them words to live by as they began their new nation. Those 10 Commandments have survived these any centuries.
Prayer: Gracious God, Your miracles can quench our thirst as they did the Isrealites so long ago. AMEM
God provides for us what we need not necessarily what we want. Just as Moses gained the trust of the Israelites, we gain trust in God as he tends to our every need. The “icing on the cake” is the many, many blessings he showers us with, big and small. Many may not necessarily be a necessity to get by but true blessings that are gifts to make our earthly lives full, easier and full of joy.
Dear God, thank you for taking care of my every need and for the extra blessings that you so graciously give. Amen

Exodus 17:6
Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people will drink.” And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Do I realize I do the exact same thing to God? I am more like the Israelites I need to remember what the Red Sea was to Israel, the gospel of Jesus Christ is for me and I realize the gospel is a MUCH better salvation than the Red Sea.
God reminds Israel to look back and remember slavery in Egypt. And remember how he rescued them, with that clearly in mind,…
Exodus 17:6
God’s provision may come in ways we do not understand and at times when we least expect it. It may be at times we are hopeless or even angry at God. God’s will and timing are perfect. An essential aspect of faith is trust. If, by faith, I trust that God loves me, the circumstances of life that are difficult take on a different meaning. I can keep moving from the troubles of today to the bright hope of tomorrow. The hymn writer calls this “Blessed Assurance.”
Prayer - Merciful God, there are days when I feel I need water from a rock. Help me trust in Your provision for my every need. Grant me the confidence to…
