Proverbs 25:28
Like a city whose walls are broken down
is a man who lacks self control.
This is such a great image for me. Without sel-control, we are so vulnerable. Anything or anyone can come along at the right/wrong time and get the better of us. We are subject to all kinds of temptations if we do not exercise self control. And self control comes from God- a fruit of the Spirit. The more we allow the Holy Spirit into our lives, the more fruit we bear.
Father God, thank you for your many gifts. I thank you especially for your gift of self-control, and I can see today I will need this, as I face challenges at work. I thank you for these challenges, and ask you to be with me and help me to grow from these difficult days. Amen

Proverbs 25:28 In the ancient world, people built massive walls around cities and patrolled them with armed guards. Without these walls the people would be vulnerable to attack by anyone. Conquering a city was the hardest military feat imaginable. But here’s Solomon, the wisest guy in scripture saying that controlling yourself is more impressive than pulling off this nearly impossible feat. Exercising self control is a form of personal freedom. Not exercising self control sets us up for lots of troubles. We don’t have to do what we feel like doing, we are free to do what we know is right. Discipline and self control will help anyone to be the person they want to be. Many times I have said…
Proverbs 25: 28 Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.
When I use self-control I am able to keep the devil at bay. I can carry on my daily chores knowing that the enemy is kept away and that through the Holy Spirit, Jesus will protect me. In this way the Holy Spirit will grow in me and shower me with love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Dearest Lord, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to my heart. It is through him that I am able to use self-control daily. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Proverbs 25:28 A person without self-control is like a city with broken down walls. City walls, fences, locked doors, and rules all serve the same purpose. They protect us from both outside evils and inside desires. The wall we transformers are building is the wisdom offered to us in our Bibles. This doesn’t mean self-control is now easier for me. I have learned to stop and not react too quickly but to take a step back and try to be proactive and understanding about a situation. It is not easy! But I have made progress. Prayer: gracious God please keep working with me on my shortcomings. Amen
Proverbs 25:28 Proverbs never fails to paint word pictures that perfectly capture its lessons. If I can master self-control, I protect others from my foolishness, but just as importantly I protect myself like the walls of an ancient city. Out of control behavior only leads to out of control consequences.
Prayer - God of protection, let me be ever on guard of my behavior and interactions with others. Make all my words and deeds reflect a self-control yet openness that honors and glorifies Father, Son and Spirit. Amen
