A Daily Devotion for Thursday, October 15

I Corinthians 12:4-11

verses 4-6 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.

Todays reading got me thinking about our church family. What would God’s community look like if each one of us actively sought God’s direction to discover our gifts and to put them to work doing His will? Every single one of us, doing what each one is called to do, following God’s will- it would be beautiful! I imagine there are many who feel as I do and are never really certain what their gifts are or what to do with them. These verses lead me to look at my own prayer life. I can’t know God’s will unless I am close enough to God to be able to hear Him. Prayer is my answer for today’s questions.

Holy Lord, what are my gifts? What would you have me do for your kingdom here on earth? I do not want to waste any more time. I want to follow your lead. Amen

In this reading from his letter, Paul is teaching about what spiritual gifts are, who receives them, and also why they are given. The Holy Spirit is within each of us who believe – these gifts are given to us so that we can use them for the common good, for service to the church. Having one gift as opposed to another gift does not make having that gift more important; they are all important in service to God.

Let us pray please – Loving God, through Your great and powerful spirit, you have gifted those in Your church with varying, special talents and abilities. Prophesy, teaching, preaching, etc. Thank you for all of these gifts that You give us.…

20201015 Thursday, Daily Devotion - 1 Corinthians 12:6

6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

Today’s scriptures also talk about the same work of the Holy Spirit for different gifts for individuals. It means each of us does different shapes or kinds of work for God but must be the work of the Spirit. Therefore, the most important characteristics of everything we do for God must reveal a characteristic or fragrance of the Holy Spirit no matter what kind of work we do. What are the characteristics of the work of the Holy Spirit, which reveals in different kinds of works each of us does…

1 Corinthians 4:11-16 Do I know my  spiritual gift(s) this is a serious subject because I would get to discover something about myself that I may not have known before. I know my physical gifts but are they the same. My  spiritual gift is something God has chosen specifically for me so that I can help with the growth of our church by serving and using my abilities. No matter what gift(s)  I/we have each one is given by the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit decides which gift I/ we Should have, We are responsible to use these gifts remembering we can not take credit  for what God has freely given us. There are many kinds of spiritual gifts given but…

1 Corinthians 12: 4-11

4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each on, just as he determines.

Serving others. I have always wanted to help others. I just don’t know how to begin. Helping at the “Friendly Kitchen,” going to a nursing home with Roz, inviting someone who is alone to dinner in my home, these are things I would love to do. But I am not one to do things like this on my own or have the no how to proceed. I guess you could say that I am a follower and need that someone…
