A Daily Devotion for Thursday, November 24

2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to bless you abundantly; so that in all things and at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Today I am thankful to God for all His blessings. His blessings are abundant: this beautiful Fall day, family and friends, and good food. But I think this verse in particular is meant to give one courage to step out and do "good work." Today I wonder about doing more for others, being more generous, giving more time and energy to loving God's people. God's abundance will provide me with what I need in order to do this.

Holy Lord, your gifts and blessings never end. Help me to put them to the best use possible. Your gifts to me are not just for me- they are to allow me to love others more fully. Guide me, Lord, and thank you for today. Amen

2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

God will reward us for giving to others as he has commanded. If we do so, then God will reward us. So we have all that we need and are content that we have enough. We do not need to be afraid of the loss of what we have given. We should not withhold giving because we are worried that we will not have enough to provide for our needs in the future. It simply means that what we have will be sufficient. It means…

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God willing generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty leftover to share with others. I love the second half of this verse, “plenty leftover to share with others.” At first, because of the word left over, we think of food, but I think Paul was thinking more of our monetary resources. I am thinking of our time and talents. We are so blessed in this country with so many resources. We are being told here to share with others all we have. Prayer: Gracious God, As we celebrate with family and friends today, help us remember those who have so much less than we do. May we think of ways…

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Thanksgiving Day is here, and I think of all the generosity and giving that is so much a part of the life of a Christian. It is through God’s abundant kindness that we are able to realize the wonderful life we have and what we will experience in eternal life with God. Jesus was a free gift of grace to all who believe. A great gift to us.

Dearest Lord, on the Thanksgiving Day I give thanks for all you have given to me. The good and the bad.…

2 Corinthians 9:8

All we need may not be all we want, but it is still enough. Setting our sights, desires and aspirations on things of God is the one thing that brings out the very best in our character. Allow me to share the words of Elisabeth Elliot:

”I have been thinking of something that stifles thanksgiving. It is the spirit of greed – the greed of doing, being, and having.…Our “self image” is dependent not on the quiet and hidden “do this for my sake” but on the list the world hands us of what is “important.” It is a long list, and it is both foolish and impossible. If we fall for it, we neglect the short…
